CNN Does it Again!
So yesterday there was an attempted terrorist attack on a cartoon exhibition in Texas. Following, as it does, so closely on the horrific massacre of the cartoonists in Paris you would think that media opinion pieces would be supportive of the exhibition and its right to free speech. But you would be wrong.
What many of you readers may not know is that there is a new illness apparently afflicting whole groups of people. This disease is called 'thought-crime' and those suffering from it are quickly learning how to manage the symptoms lest they should suffer the dreaded side-affects of labels.
This illness can manifest itself with all kinds of symptoms but the most obvious include:
- a terrible need for freedom of speech
- a disgusting tendency to speak out against horrendous injustice
- a misguided illusion that rational discussion is better than murder and violent beliefs
- the bizarre idea that all people have a right to believe as they will and criticize any belief as they will.
- the delirious notion that complete free speech cannot have conditions, because the moment it does it ceases to be free speech.
More dangerous than Ebola, this illness is being combated by legions of brave 'free-thinkers' (just like the guys at CNN), who thankfully understand what is best for all of us and are only too happy to police discussion with much needed labels. This tendency to police others has become so pronounced in fact that we can only but thank decades of propaganda for providing us with its guiding light.
This terrible illness can only be fought with all powerful words like 'freedom', 'equality', 'innocent', 'it's justified', racist' and my current favorite: 'Islamophobia'. Thank you CNN, for protecting us all.
